The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
When the sun shall be wound round, 1 The stars turn dim and scatter, 2 when the mountains shall be set in motion, 3 And when the camels big with young are abandoned, 4 And when the wild animals are made to go forth, 5 when the seas are set boiling, 6 And when souls are reunited, 7 And the little girl buried alive is asked 8 For what sin she was killed? 9 when the scrolls are unrolled, 10 when heaven is stripped, 11 And when hell is further enflamed. 12 And when Paradise is brought near, 13 Every soul will then come know what it has brought. 14 But nay! I swear by the stars, 15 That run their course (and) hide themselves, 16 by the night swarming, 17 And by the dawn as it brightens; 18 that the Quran is the word of the honorable angelic, mighty Messenger 19 one mighty and held in honour with the Lord of the Throne; 20 Obeyed one; then trustworthy. 21 Your companion is not mad. 22 he truly saw him on the clear horizon; 23 and he is not one to begrudge others the knowledge [of whatever has been revealed to him] out of that which is beyond the reach of human Perception. 24 This is not the utterance of an accursed devil. 25 where then are you going? 26 Verily this is no less than a Message to (all) the Worlds: 27 For him among you who pleases to go straight. 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Sustainer of all the worlds, wills [to show you that way]. 29
