The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
(On the day) when the sun is made to cease shining, 1 when the stars are thrown down, 2 And when the mountains are driven. 3 when the pregnant camels are neglected, 4 when the savage beasts shall be mustered, 5 When the oceans boil over with a swell; 6 When the souls are sorted out, (being joined, like with like); 7 questions are asked about the baby girls buried alive, 8 For what crime she was killed; 9 And when the pages are laid open, 10 when heaven is stripped, 11 and Hell is stoked, 12 And when Paradise shall be brought near, 13 (Then) every soul will know what it hath made ready. 14 BUT NAY! I call to witness the revolving stars, 15 the planets that run their course and set, 16 and the night as it darkly falls, 17 by the dawn sighing, 18 This is indeed the recitation of an honoured Noble Messenger. (Angel Jibreel – peace and blessings be upon him.) 19 Mighty, established in the presence of the Lord of the Throne, 20 (One) to be obeyed, and trustworthy; 21 Your Companion is not mad, 22 He had surely seen Him on the clear horizon. 23 And this Prophet is not miserly upon the hidden. (Allah gave the knowledge of the hidden to the Holy Prophet – peace and blessings be upon him.) 24 Nor is it the word of a satan accursed. 25 So where are you going? 26 This is nothing but a Reminder to the worlds, 27 For those of you who desire to walk the path that is straight, 28 And what will you wish, except if Allah wills – the Lord of the Creation. 29
