The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Woe unto the defrauders: 1 Those who, when they take by measure from mankind, exact the full, 2 But if they measure unto them or weight for them, they cause them loss. 3 Imagine such men not that they shall be raised up? 4 For a tremendous Day - 5 A Day when (all) mankind will stand before the Lord of the Worlds? 6 Nay! Truly, the Record (writing of the deeds) of the Fujjar (disbelievers, sinners, evil-doers and wicked) is (preserved) in Sijjin. 7 And what will make thee know whatsoever the record in Sijjin is? 8 A written record. 9 Woe unto the repudiators on that day! 10 Those who deny the Day of Justice. 11 And none will deny it, except every transgressor, rebel. 12 When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples." 13 No. In fact what they have been doing has rusted their hearts. 14 Nay! Surely, they (evil-doers) will be veiled from seeing their Lord that Day. 15 Then indeed they have to enter hell. 16 And it will be said (unto them): This is that which ye used to deny. 17 Indeed the record of the virtuous is in the highest place, the Illiyin. 18 And what could make thee conceive what that mode most lofty will be? 19 A record of good deeds written. 20 witnessed by those brought nigh. 21 The righteous shall indeed be blissful, 22 On adorned couches, observing. 23 Thou wilt recognise in their faces the beaming brightness of Bliss. 24 They are given to drink of a pure wine, sealed, 25 which have the fragrance of musk. This is the kind of place for which one should really aspire. 26 And admixture thereof will be Water of Tasnim: 27 a fountain at which those brought near (to their Lord) drink. 28 Indeed, those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed. 29 when they passed by them they winked, 30 When they returned to their people they returned jesting; 31 and whenever they see those [who believe,] they say: "Behold, these [people] have indeed gone astray!" 32 But they were not Sent to be guardians over them! 33 So Today those who believed are laughing at the disbelievers, 34 On thrones, they will look. 35 "Are these deniers of the truth being [thus] requited for [aught but] what they were wont to do?" 36
