The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Woe to those who give short measure, 1 Who insist on being given full when they take from others, 2 but when they measure or weigh for others, they reduce! 3 Do they not think that they will be resurrected 4 For a mighty day, 5 a day when mankind shall stand before the Lord of all Being? 6 Nay! most surely the record of the wicked is in the Sijjin. 7 And what will make you know what the Sijjin is? 8 The record is a sealed text. 9 Woe on that Day unto those who give the lie to the truth 10 Who give the lie to the day of judgment. 11 Yet none gives the lie to it except the transgressor immersed in sin; 12 And when Our revelations are rehearsed unto him, he saith: fables of the ancients! 13 By no means! Aye! encrusted upon their hearts is that which they have been earning. 14 Therefore they will be screened off from their Lord that day, 15 Then verily they will be roasted into the Scorch. 16 and who will be told, "This is what you had called a lie". 17 But, the Book of the righteous is in the 'Illiyoon. 18 And what will make thee know whatsoever the record in Illiyun is? 19 It is a Book inscribed, 20 which those angels closest to God will bear witness to. 21 The virtuous will surely be in bliss, 22 (reclining) upon couches they will gaze, 23 On their faces you will see the glow of beatitude. 24 They will be given a drink of pure wine, sealed, 25 The last thereof (that wine) will be the smell of musk, and for this let (all) those strive who want to strive (i.e. hasten earnestly to the obedience of Allah). 26 With it will be (given) a mixture of Tasnim: 27 A spring, from (the waters) whereof drink those Nearest to Allah. 28 Indeed, those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed. 29 when they passed by them they winked, 30 And when they returned to their own folk, they returned jesting; 31 and when they saw them they said, 'Lo, these men are astray!' 32 Yet they were not sent as watchers over them. 33 But on the Day [of Judgment,] they who had attained to faith will [be able to] laugh at the [erstwhile] deniers of the truth: 34 On adorned couches, observing. 35 The infidels have indeed been rewarded for that which they had been doing. 36
