The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Woe to those who give less [than due], 1 Who insist on being given full when they take from others, 2 And who, when they measure unto them or weigh for them, diminish. 3 Imagine such men not that they shall be raised up? 4 On a mighty Day. 5 The day on which men shall stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 No! Indeed, the record of the wicked is in sijjeen. 7 and what could make you understand what the Sijjin is? -- 8 A Register inscribed. 9 Woe that day unto those who cry it lies, 10 Who give the lie to the day of judgment. 11 And none gives the lie to it but every exceeder of limits, sinful one 12 When our signs are recited to him, he says, 'Fairy-tales of the ancients!' 13 No indeed; but that they were earning has rusted upon their hearts. 14 Yes indeed – they will be deprived of seeing their Lord on that day. 15 Then indeed, they will [enter and] burn in Hellfire. 16 Then shall it be said: This is what you gave the lie to. 17 NAY, VERILY - the record of the truly virtuous is [set down] in a mode most lofty! 18 What could let you know what the 'Illiyoon is! 19 A record of good deeds written. 20 Witnessed by those who are honoured. 21 Surely the pious shall be in bliss, 22 seated on couches and gazing around in wonder. 23 Thou wilt recognize in their faces the brightness of delight. 24 They will be given a drink of pure wine whereon the seal [of God] will have been set, 25 pouring forth with a fragrance of musk. To that [wine of paradise,] then, let all such aspire as [are willing to] aspire to things of high account: 26 a wine whose mixture is Tasnim, 27 a fountain at which those brought near (to their Lord) drink. 28 Those in sin used to laugh at those who believed, 29 And when the believers used to pass by, they used to gesture at each other with their eyes. 30 and whenever they return to people of their own kind, they return full of jests; 31 and when they saw them, they said [scornfully], "These men have surely gone astray," 32 But they were not Sent to be guardians over them! 33 so today those who believe shall [be able to] laugh at those who denied the truth 34 On high couches, gazing. 35 Will not the disbelievers then be duly recompensed for their laughing at the believers? 36
