The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ WHEN THE SKY is split asunder, 1 And obeys its Lord and it must. 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 And it unburdens itself of all that is in it, and becomes empty. 4 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must: 5 O human, you are working hard towards your Lord and you will meet Him. 6 Then as to him who is given his book in his right hand, 7 will be easy, 8 and he will return to his family joyfully. 9 but as for him whose record shall be given to him from behind his back, 10 Soon he will pray for death. 11 They will suffer the heat of hell fire. 12 Once, he lived joyfully among his family 13 Indeed, he had thought he would never return [to Allah]. 14 Surely yes, why not? Indeed his Lord is seeing him. 15 I swear by the glow of sunset, 16 And the night and that which it drives on, 17 and by the moon, when it reaches its fullness: 18 that you shall surely ride from stage to stage. 19 What, then, is amiss with them that they will not believe [in a life to come]? 20 And when the Quran is recited to them they do not make obeisance? ۩ 21 Nay, but the unbelievers are crying lies, 22 God is quite aware of what they are storing in their hearts. 23 So give them good tidings of a painful chastisement, 24 unless it be such [of them] as [repent, and] attain to faith, and do good works; for theirs shall be a reward unending! 25
