Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 in a sublime Garden, 10 Wherein you shall not hear vain talk. 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 raised couches, 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 And cushions ranged! 15 and outspread carpets. 16 Do (these unbelievers) not observe the camels: how they were created? 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer, 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
