Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 troubled and tired as a result of their deeds in the past. 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 There is no food for them except thorns of fire. 6 Neither nourishing nor banishing hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 In a high Garden 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 therein uplifted couches 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 And cushions lined up 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains, how they were fixed; 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 Allah will punish him with direst punishment. 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 26
