Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 troubled and tired as a result of their deeds in the past. 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 They will be given drink from a boiling spring. 5 no food for them except thorny plants 6 Which neither give strength nor satisfy the hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 With their effort [they are] satisfied 9 In an elevated garden, 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 with a flowing spring, 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 Cushions arranged, 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And the heaven, how it is reared aloft, 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
