Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has the news of the overwhelming event reached you? 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 Many faces will be joyous on that day, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 In an elevated garden, 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 raised couches, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 And cushions lined up 15 And carpets spread around. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And at the sky, how it is raised aloft? 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 Therefore advise; indeed you are a proclaimer of advice. (The Holy Prophet is a Remembrance from Allah.) 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment, 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
