Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 With their effort [they are] satisfied 9 In a high Garden 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 and goblets laid out, 14 and cushions ranged, 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish. 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 But whoso is averse and disbelieveth, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
