Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 into My Paradise. 30
