Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 and the ten nights! 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 Enter among My servants 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
