He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 to him thou attendest 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And produce therein corn, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 olives, dates, 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
