Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I swear by this city (Mecca) – 1 this land in which thou art free to dwell 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 Verily, We have created man in toil. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Ascent is! - 12 To free a neck (from the burden of debt or slavery), 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 to an orphaned relative 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 Then he became one of those who believed, and recommended one another to perseverance and patience, and (also) recommended one another to pity and compassion. 17 Those who do so are the people of the right hand, 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
