The Sun (Al-Shams)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its rising brightness 1 By the moon when it followeth it, 2 And [by] the day when it displays it 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 And [by] the sky and He who constructed it 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 Consider the human self, and how it is formed in accordance with what it is meant to be, 7 Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him; 8 He who nourishes it will surely be successful, 9 And he who confines it will surely come to grief. 10 TO [THIS] TRUTH gave the lie, in their overweening arrogance, [the tribe of] Thamud, 11 When the basest of them broke forth 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 And He does not fear its coming behind (to take vengeance). 15
