The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour; 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 And the day when it shows it, 3 By the Night as it conceals it; 4 By the Firmament and its (wonderful) structure; 5 And [by] the earth and He who spread it 6 by the soul and how He formed it, 7 And inspired it with the wickedness thereof and the piety thereof, 8 prosperous is he who purified it, 9 and he who suppresses it will be ruined. 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 when that most hapless wretch from among them rushed forward [to commit his evil deed,] 12 the Messenger of Allah said to them: '(This is) the shecamel of Allah, let her drink' 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
