The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its brightness 1 by the moon when it follows the sun, 2 By the day when it glorifieth it. 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 And the heaven and Him Who built it, 5 and the earth and all its expanse! 6 And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it 7 and inspired it with its sin and its piety, 8 those who purify their souls will certainly have everlasting happiness 9 And he fails that corrupts it! 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety). 12 So the Noble Messenger of Allah said to them, “Stay away from the she camel of Allah, and from its turn to drink.” 13 But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground). 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
