The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its midmorning, 1 and by the moon as it follows it; 2 by the day, when it displays it, 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 Consider the sky and its wondrous make, 5 and the earth and all its expanse! 6 By the Soul, and the proportion and order given to it; 7 then inspired it to understand what was right and wrong for it. 8 He has succeeded who purifies it, 9 and failed is he who buried it! 10 Thamud belied in their exorbitance. 11 When the basest of them broke forth 12 And the apostle of God had to tell them: "This is God's she-camel, let her drink." 13 But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground). 14 And He (Allah) feared not the consequences thereof. 15
