The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the sun and its light 1 and by the moon when she follows him, 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 The night when it covers him over, 4 By the heaven and Him Who builded it, 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 And a soul and Him Who perfected it 7 and inspired it with knowledge of evil and piety, 8 Indeed successful is the one who made it pure. 9 and failed is he who buried it! 10 Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression, 11 When the most wicked among them stood up in defiance. 12 But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!" 13 Then they rejected him (as a false prophet), and they hamstrung her. So their Lord, on account of their crime, obliterated their traces and made them equal (in destruction, high and low)! 14 And He fears not its consequence. 15
