The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night as it envelops; 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 But save him who fears 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 He verily will be content. 21
