The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
