The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 and the day in splendour 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. 8 And rejects the best, 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 He verily will be content. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
