The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 created man from a clot of congealed blood. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 We will call the angels of Hell. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
