The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 Created man from a clot. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay! Verily, man does transgress all bounds (in disbelief and evil deed, etc.). 6 Because he considers himself self-sufficient. 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
