The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 Because he considers himself self-sufficient. 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
