The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 Created man from a clot. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 What will happen if the prohibiting rejects the Truth and turns away from it!? 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 Beware! Do not obey him, but bow in adoration and draw near (to your Lord). ۩ 19
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
