The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Read! In the name of your Lord, who created: 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 Because he considers himself self-sufficient. 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 The lying, sinful forelock - 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 We, will call the Zabania (the harsh angels of Hell). 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
