The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 Created man from a clot. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 Despite this, the human being still tends to rebel 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 or orders piety? 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
