The Embryo (Al-Alaq)

19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)

In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful

READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Did you see him who forbids 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 Nay, if he desist not, We shall most surely drag him down upon his forehead 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19
