The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 Nay! Verily, man does transgress all bounds (in disbelief and evil deed, etc.). 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 A slave (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) when he prays? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
