Those among the Descendants of Israel who turned disbelievers were cursed by the tongue of Dawud, and of Eisa the son of Maryam; it was because of their disobedience and their rebellion. 78 Nor did they (usually) forbid one another the iniquities which they committed: evil indeed were the deeds which they did. 79 You will see many of them befriending those who disbelieve; certainly evil is that which their souls have sent before for them, that Allah became displeased with them and in chastisement shall they abide. 80 And had they believed in Allah and the prophet and what was revealed to him, they would not have taken them for friends but! most of them are transgressors. 81 ۞ You will find that the bitterest in their enmity to the faithful are the Jews and the polytheists; the nearest in affection to them are those who say, "We are Christians." That is because there are priests and monks among them; and because they are free from pride. 82 And when they hear what has been revealed to the Messenger, you see their eyes overflowing with tears because of what they have recognized of the truth. They say, "Our Lord, we have believed, so register us among the witnesses. 83 And why should we not believe in Allah and the Truth which has come down to us when we do fervently desire that our Lord include us among the righteous?' 84 And for this their prayer hath Allah rewarded them with gardens, with rivers flowing underneath,- their eternal home. Such is the recompense of those who do good. 85 Those who disbelieved and gave the lie to Our signs are rightfully the inmates of the Blazing Flame. 86
