The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And couches raised up. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 and made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
