And the chieftains of his folk, who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and whom We had made soft in the life of the world, said: This is only a mortal like you, who eateth of that whereof ye eat and drinketh of that ye drink. 33 If you obey a mortal like yourselves, then you will be losers. 34 Does he promise you that when you have died and become dust and bones that you will be brought forth [once more]? 35 ۞ Away! away with that wherewith ye are promised; 36 There is only the life of this world: We die and we live: there is no rising from the dead for us. 37 "He is only a man who invents a lie against Allah, but we are not the ones to believe in him!" 38 He said: "O my Lord! Help me because they deny me." 39 [And God] would say: "After a little while they will surely be smitten with remorse!" 40 So the punishment overtook them in justice, and We made them as rubbish; so away with the unjust people. 41 Then after them We brought forth other generations. 42 [for,] no community can ever forestall [the end of] its term - and neither can they delay [its coming]. 43 Then We sent our messengers one after another. Whenever its messenger came unto a nation they denied him; so We caused them to follow one another (to disaster) and We made them bywords. A far removal for folk who believe not! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our Signs and a clear authority 45 to Pharaoh and his Council, but they were very proud, and they were a tyrannical nation. 46 'What' they said, 'are we to believe in two mortals like us, whose nation are our worshipers' 47 So they denied them, and became of those who were destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book, in order that they might receive guidance. 49 And We made the son of Maryam (Mary) and his mother as a sign, And We gave them refuge on high ground, a place of rest, security and flowing streams. 50
