He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 you attended to him, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and fearfully, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and purified. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
