He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 to a rich man, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 olives, dates, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
