Seest thou one who turns back, 33 And gave a little and [then] refrained? 34 Does he possess the knowledge of the Unseen, and therefore he sees? 35 Has he not heard what is contained in the Book of Moses, 36 And of Ibrahim who faithfully fulfilled? 37 That no bearer of burden shall bear the burden of another- 38 That man can have nothing but what he strives for; 39 And that his striving shall soon be seen- 40 Then he will be recompensed for it with the fullest recompense 41 And that to your Lord is the finality 42 And that it is He who makes [one] laugh and weep 43 and that it is He who causes to die, and causes to live 44 and He it is Who created the two kinds, the male and the female, 45 from an ejected drop of sperm; 46 and that He will bring about the Second Creation; 47 And that He it is Who enricheth and contenteth; 48 And that He it is Who is the Lord of Sirius; 49 And that it is He Who earlier destroyed the tribe of Aad? 50 and Thamud, leaving no trace of them, 51 as well as the people of Noah before them - [since,] verily, they all had been most willful in their evildoing and most overweening 52 and He overthrew the subverted cities [of Sodom and Gomorrah] 53 and then covered them from sight forever. 54 How many favours of your Lord will you then deny? 55 This is a warning among the warnings of yore. 56 There hath approached the approaching Hour. 57 [although] none but God can unveil it.... 58 At this discourse then marvel ye? 59 Or do you laugh, and do you not weep 60 While you are indulging in varieties. 61 So prostrate yourselves before God and worship him. ۩ 62
