The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 and children living in his presence, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
