Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 Entering into burning fire, 4 They will be given drink from a boiling spring. 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 Many a face will be in serenity on that day. 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And carpets spread around. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 Thou art not one to manage (men's) affairs. 22 But whosoever will turn back and disbelieve 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
