The Amramites (Al-Imraan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A. L. M. 1 God exists. He is the only Lord, the Everlasting and the Guardian of life. 2 He has revealed this Book to you, setting forth the truth and confirming the earlier Books, and earlier He revealed the Torah and Gospel 3 Surely they who disbelieve in the communications of Allah they shall have a severe chastisement; and Allah is Mighty, the Lord of retribution. 4 From God nothing whatever is hidden in heaven and earth. 5 He it is who shapes you in the wombs as He wills. There is no deity save Him, the Almighty, the Truly Wise. 6 He it is Who hath revealed unto thee (Muhammad) the Scripture wherein are clear revelations - they are the substance of the Book - and others (which are) allegorical. But those in whose hearts is doubt pursue, forsooth, that which is allegorical seeking (to cause) dissension by seeking to explain it. None knoweth its explanation save Allah. And those who are of sound instruction say: We believe therein; the whole is from our Lord; but only men of understanding really heed. 7 (They say): "Our Lord! Let not our hearts deviate (from the truth) after You have guided us, and grant us mercy from You. Truly, You are the Bestower." 8 Lord, it is certain that one day You will gather all the people together. God does not break His promise." 9
