The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 which will inevitably seize the disbelievers. 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit (Gabriel) ascend in a day, the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 But be patient (O Muhammad) with a patience fair to see. 5 Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 and [when] no friend will ask about his friend, 10 Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 And all those that are in the earth, (wishing) then (that) this might deliver him. 14 By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! 15 stripping away his skin, 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 And collected [wealth] and hoarded. 18 ۞ Surely man was created fretful, 19 Irritable (discontented) when evil touches him; 20 And when good touches him, withholding [of it], 21 Except the observers of prayer - 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 And those in whose wealth is a recognised right. 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 and who stand in dread of their Sustainer's chastisement 27 for, behold, of their Sustainer's chastisement none may ever feel [wholly] secure; 28 and guard their private parts 29 Are free of blame, 30 And whosoever seeketh beyond that, then it is those who are the trespassers 31 and who preserve their trusts and their covenant, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. 35
