We created man out of dry clay, from moulded mud, 26 and the jinn before (the human being) of smokeless fire. 27 And recall when your Lord said to the angels, “I will create man from sounding clay made out of black smelly mud.” 28 When I have shaped him, and breathed My spirit in him, fall you down, bowing before him!' 29 All the angels prostrated themselves, 30 Except Iblis. He refused to bow with the adorers. 31 He said: O Iblis! What aileth thee that thou art not among the prostrate? 32 Said he, 'I would never bow myself before a mortal whom Thou hast created of a clay of mud moulded.' 33 Said He: "Go forth, then, from this [angelic state]: for, behold, thou art [henceforth] accursed, 34 and the curse shall be on you till the Day of Judgement!" 35 He said: my Lord! respite me then till the Day whereon they will be raised up. 36 He answered: 'You are among those reprieved 37 till that Appointed Day." 38 Said he, 'My Lord, for Thy perverting me I shall deck all fair to them in the earth, and I shall pervert them, all together, 39 But not such of them as are Thy bondmen single-hearted. 40 He said: This is a right way with Me: 41 verily, thou shalt have no power over My creatures - unless it be such as are [already] lost in grievous error and follow thee [of their own will]: 42 For whom the ordained place is surely Hell, 43 There are seven gates in it, and to each gate a portion of them has been allotted. 44
