Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 be toiling and worn-out; 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 Many faces will be joyous on that day, 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 raised couches, 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and outspread carpets. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 Verily, to Us will be their return; 25 and then it is for Us to call them to account. 26
