These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 And those on the left hand: What of those on the left hand? 41 They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 neither cool nor good. 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again, 47 And our forefathers [as well]?" 48 Say: 'Those of ancient times and those of later times 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 "Then will ye truly,- O ye that go wrong, and treat (Truth) as Falsehood!- 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 and you shall fill therewith your bellies 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 that We may exchange the likes of you, and make you to grow again in a fashion you know not. 61 You certainly knew about (your) first development. Why do you not take heed? 62 Tell Me! The seed that you sow in the ground. 63 Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower? 64 We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day, 65 "Verily, we are ruined! 66 "Nay, but we are deprived!" 67 Have you considered the water you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to descend from the clouds, or do We? 69 If We pleased, We would have made it salty; why do you not then give thanks? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who grew its tree, or is it We Who create? 72 We have made it as a reminder and convenience for the needy. 73 So glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme. 74
