The Thamud accused the messengers of lies. 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: fear ye not? 142 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 143 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 144 And I ask of you no hire therefor; MY hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 145 "Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] in the midst of what you have here and now? 146 amidst gardens and springs 147 sown fields, and palms with slender spathes? 148 And dwellings hewed out of mountains ingeniously? 149 Fear Allah and obey me 150 “And do not follow those who exceed the limits.” 151 those who spread corruption in the land instead of putting things right." 152 They said, "You are only bewitched and insane. 153 "You are but a human being like us. Then bring us a sign if you are of the truthful." 154 He said: 'Here is a shecamel. She shall have her share of water as you have yours on an appointed day. 155 Do not cause her to suffer lest you become subject to the torment of the great day (of Judgment)." 156 They slew the she-camel, but later became regretful 157 for the suffering [predicted by Salih,] befell them [then and there]. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 158 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 159
