Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 Laboring, toiling, 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful, 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 in a sublime Garden, 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 And cushions lined up 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 Allah will punish him with direst punishment. 24 For to Us will be their return; 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
