And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 when he asked his father and others, "What do you worship?" 70 They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted." 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? 72 Or do they benefit you, or do they harm?" 73 They said: Nay, we found our fathers doing so. 74 He said: See now that which ye worship, 75 you and your forefathers of yore? 76 Verily they are an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the worlds. 77 "Who created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 and He gives me to eat and drink, 79 and, whenever I am sick, heals me, 80 He will cause me to die and will bring me back to life. 81 and He who will, I hope, forgive me my faults on the Day of the Judgement. 82 (And then Abraham prayed): "My Lord, endow me with knowledge and wisdom and join me with the righteous, 83 Make my words come true in the future. 84 Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss 85 Forgive my father. He has gone astray. 86 "And let me not be in disgrace on the Day when (men) will be raised up;- 87 the day when neither wealth nor sons shall profit 88 except for him who comes to God with a pure heart. 89 and Paradise shall be brought forward to the cautious. 90 and hell will be left open for the rebellious ones 91 And it shall be said unto them where is that which ye were wont to worship? 92 Instead of Allah? Can they help you or help themselves? 93 They will then be thrown into Hell with those who had gone astray 94 And the hosts of Iblis, together. 95 And there and then, blaming one another, they [who had grievously sinned in life] will exclaim: 96 "By God, we were plainly in error 97 when we deemed you [false deities] equal to the Sustainer of all the worlds 98 It was naught but the sinners that led us astray; 99 So none we have as intercessors. 100 nor do we have a truly sincere friend. 101 Were there for us a return, we would be of the believers. 102 Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 103 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
