The Stars (Al-Najm)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the star of the pleiades when it has dipped 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all – the Hereafter and this world. 25
