The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent. 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore patiently endure, in the best manner (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him). 5 Indeed, they see it [as] distant, 6 While we behold it nigh: 7 The day when the sky will become as molten copper, 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 and no friend will ask about his friend, 10 though they may be in one another's sight: [for,] everyone who was lost in sin will on that Day but desire to ransom himself from suffering at the price of his own children, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 and of all the kinsfolk who ever sheltered him, 13 and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. 14 Nay, verily it is a furnace 15 A remover of exteriors. 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Lo! man was created anxious, 19 Irritable (discontented) when evil touches him; 20 And niggardly when good reaches him;- 21 Not so, however, those who consciously turn towards God in prayer. 22 Those who are constant at their prayer 23 And those in whose wealth there is a known right, 24 For those who beg, and for the needy who cannot even ask. 25 And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment; 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 Surely no one can be secure from the punishment of his Lord, -- 28 and guard their private parts 29 save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy 30 whereas such as seek to go beyond that [limit] are truly transgressors; 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 And those who are upright in their testimonies, 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 Those shall be in gardens, honored. 35
