The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 No! They are going to know. 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 And made the night a cover. 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 And made [therein] a burning lamp 13 And then sent down hard rain from the water bearing clouds. 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 And gardens dense and luxuriant. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 And the heaven shall be opened so that it shall be all openings, 19 And the mountains will have been removed away, and they will have become as mirage. 20 Indeed hell is lying in ambush. 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 where they shall remain for ages, 23 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
